October Fun!

Check out what we did in October....

ENJOY!

WE FINALLY RECEIVED THE PERMITS TO START WORK ON PHASE 2!!

We welcomed a team from The Bridge Fellowship, TN

They worked half the week off-site in Guapiles

This is where Bruce slept when they were in Guapiles!

Proof! He is up in the air!

We welcomed our last team for the 2017 Team Season

Shalom Christian Academy

We celebrated Bruce's birthday on October 3.

Celebrated with the team that was here and the Children's homes kids
Perfect birthday cake!

Yep, I did that!
At the beginning of October, we were hit with Tropical Storm Nate. During this time, Costa Rica had a lot of damage and some really bad/strange happened:

We lost more of our land on Phase 2 from the river rising.
The famous Tarcoles River (Crocodile Bridge) flooded and many of the crocodiles were swimming wherever the water would take them....including the streets and in the cities where neighborhoods were.
The Tarcoles River overflowed!
These kind of pictures were posted all over Facebook!

Just walking down the street!

Bruce had a little bit of down time to be creative.  He decided to make a new, smaller and more portable smoker

Fits on the back of the truck

Seasoning it! It worked!

At the end of October, Leyton got to go to church camp.  Emme was a volunteer at the camp.  She worked with 6-7 year old boys and was called a "very big help"!  She is growing up!

On his way to church camp!

After Bruce got back from the States, the kids were gifted one of the new mini Nintendo game boxes...(they didn't even know it existed!) Thanks to the family that gifted it (you know who you are!)
First time playing the Nintendo Mini

Just a normal day at our house!
We were able to have friends over to eat dinner and play for awhile! We got to turn their son into a hunting machine (don't worry it is NERF--it's just been "Bruce-ized")

Josué looking like a gangster

They got ahold of my phone.....
With one of our teams, we got to teach the older kids how to play Spoons! They LOVED it!

3rd and 4th graders
I was able to go to Tortuga Island with one of the teams....this is what I did the whole time!

Relaxing!
In rainy season, you don't get to put laundry out very often....it was a good sunny day!

Doing laundry!

That's pretty much our life.....

Blessed!

September Fun!

September was a busy month for us--check out our lives through photos!

We made a homemade Margarita Pizza--YUM!

We got to watch the Costa Rica vs USA soccer game!
Emme had a swimming demonstration-her first one

Happy with a medal after the demonstration
Before my husband left on a 3 week US trip, we had a date night!

We got to go to Paraiso Quetzal Lodge with our friends Natalia and David and our families. It was a fun family outing! Check out the website: Paraiso Quetzal Lodge

One of the hummingbirds in the bushes

Why yes, that is a rainbow hummingbird in my hand--thank you for noticing!

After the lodge, we went up to where David's family has property and walked all along the mountain side! So peaceful!

Granadilla farm- (one type of passion fruit)

Breath taking

All the kids and Kennedy (intern that stayed with Natalia and David)

Having a good time!

This is how my friend eats a pork chop! (pequeña pero matón)
September 15th is Independence Day in Costa Rica. We celebrate every year on September 14th with a parade of lanterns (faroles) and walk around the neighborhood of the kids' school
Leyton with his goofy face and his lantern
On September 15th, the school has an assembly where each class does a presentation for Independence Day.  This year Emme did a typical dance with other kids in her class.

Emme and her friend had almost matching skirts
While daddy was gone to the States, I taught the kids several card games.  One being Solitaire.

Solitaire was a HIT!

Made my first batch of homemade applesauce in the InstantPot

This is my night--EVERY night
In September we started Leyton in Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. He has enjoyed it so far!

Hoping this rubs off on Leyton.

Working on some techniques
In September we also looked into another school for the kids.  Leyton has had issues with school and we are looking to foster his learning style in other ways.  He spent a half a day at the school and made new friends quickly!
Playing tag during break time

We had a torrential down pour in Cartago and flooded the road and our friends' houses--TWICE

Emme made me dinner!
Emme also participated in her first swimming competition with her swim team. It was a long 2 days, but so beneficial to her in her development in swimming!

Playing cards in the down time

Ready to go at any time!

Mixed 50m freestyle relay team- Came in 1st place!

She did so well!
