TTW team-Eastern Christian High School- NJ

Last week we welcomed a team from Eastern Christian High School in New Jersey.  They were through another organization called Touch the World.

Touch the World

This was the first time that we welcomed a team from TTW but they had been here in the past and the coordinator for TTW was an intern here at the Abraham Project, so it was great to connect with her and knowing so much about the AP and Costa Rica already.

This was also the first team that I, Angie, ran completely by myself.  From planning to coordinating to reserving and working the whole time--I was pooped! Bruce of course worked with me, but I was the go-to person.  It is a lot of work and it is nice when I am NOT the go-to person.  Sometimes it is just too hard to be wife, mom, worker, coordinator, and with this team, nurse.  Unfortunately, we were all sick during this team.

I was sick on Saturday, the day the team was supposed to arrive, but thank goodness, there was snow on the ground in New Jersey and mechanical problems with the plane and the team was delayed about 6-8 hours.  Not good for them, but good for us!  The arrived about 10pm and by Sunday, I was up and moving again.
On Monday, Bruce was down and I also received a phone call from Leyton's teacher.  He was sick.  I was getting ready to go into the classroom to start daycare rotations and Bruce was starting the team on construction.  Steve Jr, who normally would be there to help was out of the country.  So Bruce went and got Leyton and he stayed at the office.  On Tuesday, Emme was sick. So both Emme and Leyton had to hang out at the office while Bruce and I worked all day.  This is one of the downsides to not having extended family to watch sick kids.  But we toughed through it.  Not only were we sick, but Emme also had exams that week.  We had 2 teams back to back, sickness and first trimester exams.....to say we were stressed, was an understatement.

But, God in His faithfulness, provided.  One of the team members studied with Emme while she was at the office, and the team was SUPER flexible and understanding.  We pushed through and came out on top!  So thankful for how TTW prepared this team! They were ready to work and rolled with the punches.

Here are some pictures from their week: ENJOY!

Then after all their work and service, they continued to serve us.  This is an example of pouring into missionaries.  They wrote notes to us...some of them to EACH of us--including the kids.  Each letter was a heart-felt thank you and talked about how God moved in their lives. Not only the notes, but they also gave us a gift as a family.  These kids are thoughtful and I'm not sure if they know how much the letters meant to us.....this was a blessing!

THANK YOU EASTERN CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL! AND THANK YOU TOUCH THE WORLD FOR SENDING US AMAZING KIDS FOR THE WEEK!

A stroll down memory lane......

Well, as we have been here for almost 3 years and we are into our second year as Team Leaders, God is moving in this Project in a BIG WAY!

First, let us take a stroll down memory lane.....

(Click on the link to see the years of pictures and development in like 4 minutes)

Photo history of the Abraham Project

For anyone who has been a part of the teams and the work--THANK YOU!

As we look to the future, Steve and Georgiana Thomas, the directors of the Children's Homes have been starting their plan for the future.  Starting of Phase 2.

God has been moving mightily to get to where we are today. (If you are unsure of how God has moved in any of the following testimonies--just ask!)
The land has been found.
The land has been purchased.
The layout has been designed.
The land is ready......

All that is needed now is the finances.  We know that God will provide as He has for the past 17 years, but we must do our part.  We are getting the word out for the needs.  Steve and Georgiana have accepted the task of managing Phase 2--which includes raising the funds.  We are just trying to get the word out to even more people.  If the Holy Spirit moves in you to get more involved--or if you even have questions, please contact us!  We love to share God's work in our little part of the world!

Below is the letter that the Thomas' are sending out to ask for involvement.  Please take the time to read and let us know if you want to have more information!

Thank you!

Joshua Expeditions Team #2-Houston, TX

March 4 we welcomed our second Joshua Expeditions team from Houston Texas!  This was the first time we welcomed Fort Bend Christian Academy to the Abraham Project--55 students in all.  We hope they will continue to be part of our work!

The whole team!!

This sweet thing!

So many talented artists on this team!

Soccer--of course!

This team got to move a WHOLE'LOTTA wood from Phase 1 to Phase 2.  Slowly we are clearing all of the extra stuff to Phase 2.

Then they got to stack all of it in the bodega.  The man in the hat is the high school principal--what an example of a leader.

This team also got to start the process of refinishing our scaffolds--trying to get it done before rainy season!

There was even some time for the team to play with some of the daycare kids!

This was at the end of the day--trying to finish moving the wood and we brought in a big truck to help!

We are so glad Fort Bend decided to partner with us! We hope they will be back again!

Joshua Expeditions Team #3- Dallas, TX

March 10 and 11 we welcomed another Joshua Expedition Team--but they are a returning team from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Dallas, TX.  It was neat to have them back--there were even familiar faces--2 of the 4 leaders were return leaders from last year! It was so neat to see them again and to know them immediately when stepping off the bus! That doesn't happen too often with our Joshua Expeditions teams.  This was a team of 38 and they were with us for 2 days! We loved every minute of it!

Crafts with the kids!
So this team was supposed to leave on a Friday, but I received a message from one of the leaders that they were delayed to leave until Monday because of the Turriabla Volcano eruption.

Turriabla eruption
However, God used their extra time here to serve a family in need.  These pictures were sent to me from one of the leaders. They were used to help a family that lost everything they owned in a fire.  The mother and children were living on the concrete slab for 15 days or more.  They helped to rebuild a house for the family!  Not in their plans, but it was in God's plans.

It was great to have the team here and how God used them during their time!  We are so thankful for them and the work they did with us and for the Abraham Project and the people of Costa Rica!

Joshua Expeditions Team #1-GA

In February, we welcomed our first Joshua Expeditions team of the year.  They were from Georgia and they came to work!

The team--28 high school students, ready to work!

This team was blessed to be the first team on Phase 2 cutting the "grass" with machetes. We were preparing the land for the survey of the river and land samples for permits to start building on Phase 2.

Doing werk!

Our lovely river!

The obligatory playing soccer photo!

After the team left.....lots of gloves drying!

We absolutely love having the Joshua Expeditions teams.  They come for 1 or 2 days, work hard with us and then they continue on their way.  It is a fun way to meet lots of people from all over the US and not have to plan for a whole team!

If your school is looking to do a mission trip, you should definitely check out Joshua Expeditions!

100 Posts!!!

I can't believe that we have hit a milestone!  100 posts of....STUFF!

Although our blog posts are not award winning material, or even on a deep spiritual reflecting sort of level, it is our life and I am thankful to be able to share it with people.

We have tried to let people know what we do on a day in-day out basis....although it usually takes awhile to update the blog!

I have learned that keeping a blog is hard.  Remembering to update it is even harder. And trying to make, what is normal life to you, interesting for others to read......probably the hardest of them all!

I hope you have enjoyed reading about all of our happenings, and I hope that you will continue to check in on us!

Drop us a line and let us know you stopped by!

Blessings!
