March Fun!

Here is a little of what we did in March!  Check it out!

On our way to school one morning, we saw a decent sized iguana crossing the road!

Iguana or small dog?

In March, we welcomed our second team of the year.  It was a returning team from Fellowship Bible Church from Kansas.

While we were with the team, we were able to go to Las Gradas in La Carpio. When I was there last year, there was a young mother who was 8 months pregnant at the time that crossed the border and was having the baby in Costa Rica.  When we returned in March, I got to meet the baby and check up on his mother.  Thankfully, Mother, Cristal and baby Brayan (5 months) were healthy and happy. Cristal had no prenatal care and was unsure when the baby would be due. Thankfully, she made it to Costa Rica before the baby was born and had a little bit of prenatal care.

A beautiful sunset in Costa Rica...never a dull evening!
Also in March, we finally were able to purchase a hearing aid for Leyton.  We found out that he had a hearing loss last year and waited to see if his hearing would change.  It did worsen, so we got him a hearing aid.  Thankfully, he likes to wear it....we will see how long that lasts.

First day of wearing the hearing aid!
I also started English classes with the second graders this year.  We read "Elmer, the Patchwork Elephant" book and got to meet my special Elmer that I purchased last year in London!
We all loved Elmer!

We also welcomed a 1 day mixed Joshua Expeditions team from Florida and Pennsylvania.

March flew by and we are thankful for a good start to the 2019 team season!

Thank you for your support!

February Fun!

And we had a decent break with no teams in February, but we still had tons of fun! Check it out!

ENJOY!!

At the beginning of February, we were able to attend our Costa Rican father's anniversary of sobriety!

We got to hear a little of his testimony as he was in charge of the AA meeting that night.

Bruce was asked to share a little about Papi as well.  It was emotional.
Bruce was asked to help organize a play time and s'mores cookout for one of the daycare classes before school started!
The kids playing on Phase 2 in the dirt

Having fun getting dirty!

Making the s'mores fire! YUM!!

Bruce showing off his manliness--8 blocks in one trip!

Bruce and Leyton continued working on the drifter.

Before school started, Leyton went go karting and invited his friend Josue.

Had to have lunch before go-karting

Love their caps!

A winning smile!

After go-karting, we went and got ice cream at Dairy Queen
Yummy ice cream!

This is what you do when you have a spoiled, cold puppy!

Also before school started, we got together with our friends for a dinner and game night!

The whole family and friends

Second week of February meant school started for the kids!  Their second year in the private school.

Emme started 7th grade

Leyton started 4th grade
We also got together with the missionaries to have dinner, games and coffee.  It was a fun time playing Apples to Apples!

Everyone being very competitive

Found a friend on Phase 2

In February, Bruce went to the States to do some visiting with supporters and churches and then he returned to be with his mom while she was in the hospital.  We are thankful that he was able to be with her and his family.

It snowed while he was driving all around

He stopped into PA at Shalom Christian Academy!
This is what he does in the States without me!

The kids were promised to make Slime with Natalia and her kids, we finally made it happen and they made slime after school one day! It was a fun and messy time!

Living Hope Baptist Church, KY

At the end of March, we welcomed back Living Hope Baptist Church from Kentucky.  This was a family team and we had a blast getting to know all of the new members of the team!

Here is a look at what they did while they were here!!

The Living Hope Family Team

The team worked in the daycare throughout the week.  We had a great time with the kids and all of the kids of the team just loved hanging out with kids their same age!

In the second grade classroom

Getting loved on by the kids....not hard for Ariana!

Working with the first graders!

The team also worked construction.  A little bit of phase 2 clean up and other light work.

Cleaning up the bigger rocks to prep the floor for leveling

Cleaning up all the construction materials that were laying around

Moving block

More clean up
Another part of the team helped re-roof the multipurpose building.  This is the building that Bruce came down to roof in 2009. It was only 10 years, but it was leaking from all the construction work on the main sanctuary roof build.  All leak free now!

The start of the project

Almost finished!

After the roof was finished, it was the real work of taking down the scaffolding...yes, Travis is holding onto Bruce! Questionable!!!

After the roof was finished, the team started working on the rebar cages and other things to continue building the houses.

Working in the bodega

Everyone loves making rebar cages!

A hard days work!

Bruce doing what he loves....creating!

After the week, the team got to enjoy a fun day to Tortuga Island.  A perfect day and a perfect trip for a family team!

Banana boating for the older kids

The littles waiting to go--Leyton went as well!

Leyton and his buddy, Nolan!
We had a great time with the Living Hope team. We have welcomed this team many times and every year is wonderful with them and meeting new members! We are so thankful for their willingness to come and serve with us over the several year relationship!
