La Presidenta!!

In June, Emme became the President of her school.  That's right, not just of her class (that was last year), but of the whole school!  Did I mention she attends a public Costa Rican school? Did I mention that she (and her brother) are the only two North American children at the school?

I can not explain how proud we are of this child.  She takes everything head on! She said she wanted to become the school president--and she did!

Now, to say this was easy for her--it wasn't.  There were many things she had to do and learn through this process.  Like, for example, she had to organize everything and come up with all the ideas on her own.  I was not going to do anything for her.  She needed to think through everything she was willing to do and making sure she followed through on her promises.

One of the requirements was to be a part of a debate.  Answer questions from each class of the school.  If there is one thing Emme hates, is to be in front of people--answering questions--in Spanish--in front of her friends and everyone...  But she did it! I was so proud of her!

Another thing she needed to do was to prepare propaganda for her political party. She had to make signs, etc.  She did not remember to tell me anything she needed ahead of time and they had to go around the school and promote their party.  I told her I was sorry, that I couldn't help her and so I told her she would have to figure something out on her own, with things from the house (which there wasn't much).  But I was trying to teach her responsibility--a good quality of a good president.  When I took her to school the next day, there were parents that had home made banners, balloons, large posters, etc. etc.  Do you know what our daughter decided? She got a couple of pieces of construction paper, markers (green and black--her party colors) and a couple of printed puma faces (her political party mascot).  She made hand made signs, wore as much green as she could, and used the markers to make puma paw prints on other students--and she won!

Regardless of all the other kids that had a lot of frill, Emme didn't.  She came with what she could--she came with herself and her character, her values and her love and respect for all students and her school--THAT SPOKE VOLUMES!!!!

I wish we could say the same for our political candidates....

We are so proud of Emme and everything she has faced being a missionary kid, a third culture kid, but most importantly, a Child of God!
